IHOP Stuffed French Toast Recipe

A rich, creamy, and restaurant-style breakfast favorite made with thick bread slices stuffed with sweet cream cheese, dipped in a flavorful egg custard, and cooked until golden. This IHOP-inspired stuffed French toast is perfect for brunch or special mornings.

Ingredients
  

For the Cream Cheese Filling:
  • 4 oz (½ cup) cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
For the French Toast:
  • 2 thick slices brioche or Texas toast bread
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup milk (whole milk preferred)
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon butter (for cooking, plus more if needed)
Optional Toppings (As Needed):
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting)
  • Fresh strawberries or mixed berries
  • Maple syrup or flavored syrup
  • Whipped cream

Method
 

  1. Mix cream cheese, powdered sugar & vanilla & make perfect stuffing.
  2. Cut a pocket into each bread slice and gently fill with the cream cheese mixture.
  3. In separate owl, whisk eggs, milk, sugar & cinnamon to make the glossy coating base.
  4. Dip stuffed bread lightly into the egg mixture, coating both sides.
  5. Heat butter in a skillet over medium heat.
  6. Cook each slice until golden brown on both sides and heated through.
  7. Rest for 1–2 minutes, then serve with desired toppings.

Notes

  • Use thick bread to prevent tearing and sogginess
  • Don’t overstuff the filling
  • Cook on medium heat for even browning

  • Best served fresh, but leftovers can be refrigerated
  • Customize with fruit or chocolate fillings for variety
