Ingredients

  • 1 cup long-grain white rice
  • 2 cups water or low-sodium vegetable broth
  • ¾ teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon onion powder
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
  • ¼ cup fresh cilantro, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon oil or butter (optional)

Equipment

  • Medium saucepan with lid
  • Measuring cups
  • Fork for fluffing
  • Knife & cutting board
  • Citrus juicer (optional)

Method

  1. Rinse the white rice perfectly in cold water.
  2. Add rice and water to a saucepan and bring to a gentle boil.
  3. Cover, reduce heat, and simmer for 15 minutes.
  4. Set aside and ready to serve
  5. Fluff with a fork, then gently fold in salt, spices, lime juice, cilantro, and oil if using.
  6. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. Serve warm.

Notes

  • Fresh lime juice gives the best flavor—avoid bottled juice.
  • Add cilantro at the end to keep it fresh and bright.

  • For softer rice, add 1–2 tablespoons of warm water while fluffing.
  • Works great for meal prep and reheats well.
