Ingredients

For the Salmon:
  • 4 salmon fillets
  • 2 olive oil or butter
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste
For the Bourbon Glaze:
  • ¼ cup bourbon whiskey
  • cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
Optional Garnishes:
  • Chopped green onions
  • Sesame seeds
  • Lemon wedges

Equipment

  • Large skillet or cast iron pan
  • Small mixing bowl
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Whisk or fork
  • Chef’s knife
  • Cutting board
  • Silicone spatula or spoon
  • Tongs
  • Paper towels
  • Serving plate

Method

  1. Prepare the Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together bourbon, brown sugar, soy sauce, honey, garlic, ginger, and Dijon mustard until the mixture becomes smooth.
  2. Season the Salmon: With the help of paper towel, gently pat and dry salmon fillets & season with salt & black pepper.
  3. Heat the Pan: Now, take a medium-sized skillet, add olive oil & heat on a medium flame until shimmering.
  4. Sear the Salmon: Now, add the salmon fillets, skin-side down, to the hot skillet. Cook for about 3–4 minutes until the bottom becomes golden and slightly crisp.
  5. Add the Bourbon Glaze: Pour the prepared glaze into the pan. The sauce will begin to bubble and slowly thicken.
  6. Glaze the Salmon: Spoon the sauce over the salmon repeatedly as it cooks. Let the glaze reduce and caramelize around the fish.
  7. Finish Cooking: Cook for another 3–4 minutes until the salmon flakes easily with a fork and the glaze becomes glossy.
  8. Garnish and Serve: Transfer the salmon to a serving plate. Sprinkle with green onions or sesame seeds and add lemon wedges before serving.

Notes

  • Use fresh, high-quality salmon for the best flavor and texture.
  • If the glaze becomes too thick, add 1–2 tablespoons of water to loosen it.

  • Avoid cooking salmon at very high heat, as the sugar in the glaze may burn.
  • Let the salmon rest for a few minutes after cooking to keep it juicy.
