Ingredients

  • ½ cup soy sauce
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp honey or maple syrup
  • ¼ cup rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp grated fresh ginger
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds
  • 2 tbsp pineapple juice (optional for tropical sweetness)
  • 1 tsp cornstarch (optional, for thickening)

Equipment

  • 1 Medium saucepan
  • 1 Whisk
  • 1 Measuring cups/spoons
  • 1 Glass jar or airtight container (for storage)

Method

  1. Combine Ingredients:
In a medium saucepan, add soy sauce, brown sugar, honey, rice vinegar, and pineapple juice. Stir well to dissolve the sugar completely.
  2. Add Aromatics:
Add minced garlic, grated ginger, sesame oil, and sesame seeds to the saucepan. Stir everything together.
  3. Simmer the Sauce:
Place the saucepan over medium heat & simmer it well to enhance all flavors from ingredients.
  4. Optional – Thicken the Sauce:
For a thicker texture, mix 1 tsp cornstarch with 1 tbsp water. Stir the slurry into the simmering sauce and cook until slightly thickened, about 1–2 minutes.
  5. Cool & Store:
Remove from heat. Let the sauce cool for 10 minutes. Use the clean glass jar or store in an air-tight container in the fridge & it lasts up to 2 weeks.

Notes

  • Vegan Option: Use maple syrup or agave instead of honey.
  • For Thicker Sauce: Mix 1 tsp cornstarch with 1 tbsp water and simmer until thickened.
  • Storage: Refrigerate in an airtight jar for up to 2 weeks; freeze for longer shelf life.
